The First 1,000
The First 1,000 days, about the first three years, are a rollercoaster of milestones. It is full of fascinating firsts — the roll-over, the tooth, the word, the step. It is also full of frightening firsts — the fever, the fall, the emergency room visit.
In the beginning of this stage, you hear their first infant cries and they can barely turn their heads. At the end of this stage, you’re listening to their opinionated conversation and they’re swinging on monkey bars.
What else happens during the First 1,000? They outgrow clothes and shoes within weeks. Many kids double their height, and quadruple their weight. Little by little, you witness their personality come out, and you start keeping a mental note of which traits may be nature, which may be nurture. Did you get one who is cautious or fearless? Did you get one who’s more often defiant or more often compliant? Did you get one who’s artistic or athletic or both? Is there a pattern, or is there no pattern? There is an endless stream of questions.
This section is dedicated to the resources and articles that could enhance this most amazing and most memorable First 1,000 days.
